New safety features such as the Intelligent Driver Information System, which synchronises on-board electronics with driver activities so as to avoid unnecessary distraction and accidents, increase safety and driver response-time. Dynamic Stability and Traction Control technology measures wheel rotation in slippery conditions and applies brakes or cuts engine power in order to reduce the likelihood of skidding. These and other technologies on board Volvo XC models increase safety conditions and explain in part why the Volvo XC70 has been the best selling car in Volvo's home country, Sweden, for many years.

Volvo has expanded its range in 2010 to introduce the five-passenger XC60, which is a luxury sport-utility vehicle with all-wheel-drive capability in the upper-range models. Available with diesel Volvo XC60 2.4-litre engines and Volvo XC60 D5 AWD engines, as well as petrol Volvo XC60 3.0-litre T AWD engines, these vehicles deliver in the 129KW and 210KW range. With excellent fuel consumption, the Volvo XC60 D5 AWD achieves six litres per 100 kilometres of highway driving, and an easy 10 litres per 100 kilometres of city driving. Available with six-speed Geartronic and manual transmission alternatives, these crossover SUVs are responsive and cool on the road.
Interior comfort is a feature in the new Volvo XC60 as both petrol and diesel engines have been tuned down to release only a murmur at low revs. Passengers can stretch out in eight-way adjustable electric seats that provide ample cushioning and lumbar support for lengthy journeys. Decent leg and elbowroom - even for a car full of adults - make way for relaxing conversations and trouble-free travelling. Volvo accessories such as a remote start for electric compartment heaters, sunshades and comfort pillows provide additional comfort and convenience.
The new Volvo XC60 has won five popular stars for its design - achieving the Edmunds accolade as the "best-looking new four-door Volvo". Distinctive with its angular grille, swept-up beltline, sparkling headlights and curvaceous body panelling, the XC60 enters 2010 in style. On the interior, too, this SUV's dashboard is sleek with a unique centre-stack panel and spacious, user-friendly cabin. Optional wood panelling and two-tone seats are available extras.
The new Volvo XC70 continues its third generation in 2010 with ultra refinement in the luxury crossover class. Available with a Volvo XC 70 D5 AWD diesel engine, as well as a Volvo XC 70 3.2 AWD petrol engine, these cars deliver a kilowatt range of between 151 and 175. A faultless combination of easy speed, quiet revving and excellent fuel consumption, the Volvo XC70 suits both urban and off-road environments.
The 2010 Volvo XC70 has an appearance that's geared for the outdoors; its oversized grille and headlamps, dark colours and pronounced wheel housings make it seem larger than life and capable of rough driving. Framed side windows, a sporty upper tailgate and long, elegant windscreen create that Swedish finesse that buyers have come to expect in new Volvo cars. Available in popular colours such as Oyster Grey Pearl, Electric Silver Metallic, Ruby Red Pearl and Black Sapphire Metallic, the new Volvo XC70 is eye-catching on the asphalt.
Importantly, Volvo has installed a variety of preventative and protective safety features in the XC70, with child safety equipment and locks. Volvo's Dynamic Stability Traction Control varies power supply to the wheels in slippery conditions, and brakes individual wheels to reduce skidding. Intelligent Driver Information Systems analyse driving situations, delay calls and relay warnings to drivers in high-pressure situations. Built into the new Volvo XC70 are reinforced passenger compartments and side-impact and whiplash protection systems, as well as dual stage and inflatable curtain airbags.
The new Volvo XC90 is a mid-sized seven-seater SUV that combines safe and child-friendly amenities with performances that you can rely on. Available with a choice of petrol Volvo XC90 3.2 AWD and Volvo XC90 V8 AWD engines, this luxury vehicle is also available with a diesel Volvo XC90 D5 AWD engine. The 3.2-litre AWD engine is a good entry-level six-cylinder option, delivering a comfortable 175KW on the road. Mileage is excellent in the XC90 D5 AWD - which achieves 11.9km per 100 litres in the city and 7.4km per 100 litres on the highway. Acceleration is a feature with the new Volvo XC90 V8 engine, which is able to move this 2 086-kilogram car to 100km per hour in just under eight seconds.
The first XC to be placed on the market, this Volvo pioneered Roll Stability Control, which uses sensors to identify the possibility of a rollover and to activate stability control systems to counter balance it. Also equipped with Blind Spot Information Systems, these SUVs are able to monitor images from cameras mounted on their side mirrors, and warn drivers when another vehicle is in the XC90's blind spot. Other safety equipment includes dual stage and side impact airbags for the front passengers, as well as an inflatable curtain, collapsible steering column and head restraints for all seats. Renowned for its crash safety rating, Volvo has left no stone unturned in the new XC90's preventative and protective safety features.
Although not intended to trek with you across Antarctica, the Volvo XC90's ride quality is smooth and solid, and its four-wheel drive can handle coarse terrain off-road with ease. The Volvo XC90 V8 AWD delivers ample power to negotiate both tar and track, and the spacious and safe cabin features make these new Volvo XC90 SUVs excellent for family transportation. Capable and solid, the XC90 in 2010 is safer on the road than ever before owing to Volvo's premium technology and track record.
Providing safety with a twist, Volvo XC SUVs are compact and easy to drive, offering family transport that's interactive and easy to use. Fine design pairs up with all-wheel drive, delivering off-road capability in a handsome package.
